I love the sprite work and character design, honestly the entire feeling of this game is super cool. The music was really good, and I loved the two dissonant notes that seemed to always take me by surprise whenever I heard them. The dialogue is one of my favorite parts- I originally talked to the other birds again because I wanted to make sure I didn't miss any dialogue, but the fact that they changed and you hear either what they're really trying to say or what your mind wants you to think they're saying is a super cool touch. It's very sad, very creepy, but strangely melancholy and nostalgic. My favorite thing is the quick screen that comes up when you die, it feels like the entire system is rebooting.
I've always been quite bad at platformers, so I have been struggling more than the average person with timing my jumps and attacks. I do think that it would be a little easier if my character moved quicker, but honestly the whole theme of them being different than the others makes this make sense. Still, the game is a bit hard and the learning curve is severe, but this is probably just a me problem LOL.
I love the use of just two colors and the dotted and janky backgrounds and characters, it just ties the theming of the game in with the feeling of playing it.
I haven't finished the game yet, I'm on the third level (I think) after you talk with the other birds for the second time and am having quite the struggle, but it's seriously fun (but will take me more than a couple tries to get through). I understand that this is a short game so I don't expect this, but I hope that the storyline gets expanded upon the closer I get to finishing! I'd love to know why these other birds hate my character so much- why I keep choosing to go back to them (or why I don't have a choice to not see them)- and why I have to go through these labyrinths filled up with creatures. It's an insanely intriguing setting.
Great job on this game!
